Khadi Mahotsav 2023: Empowering Youth and Promoting Khadi

Mumbai, India – October 18, 2023 – In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to promoting Khadi, S.K. Somaiya School, Ghatkopar, marked a significant milestone with their Khadi Campaign on the 18th of October. This event, the third in a series of empowering initiatives by HWARF NGO, spanned approximately 1 km and commenced at 10:30 AM, led by students, educators, and esteemed guests.

Campaign Route: The rally started from Shri S K Somaiya Vinay Mandir Secondary & JR College entry gates, and proceeded outside the campus towards Vidyavihar Station, following RN Gandhi Road towards Rajwadi Hospital, Rajawadi Post Office, and Rajawadi Garden, before returning to the campus through Gate No. 1.

The event witnessed the participation of students, educators, and distinguished guests, including:

Mr. Yogesh Bhamare, Director of Khadi Village and Industries Commission (KVIC).

Mrs. Christine Swaminathan, Founder & Trustee of HWARF NGO.

Mr. Raizn S. Swaminathan, Trustee of HWARF NGO.

Mr. Prem Punjabi, Trustee of HWARF NGO.

Mrs. Babina Shaikh, Assistant Professor, Government of Maharashtra Ismail Yusuf College of Arts, Science & Commerce.

Smt. Smita Bhosale, Principal - Shri S K Somaiya Vinay Mandir Secondary & JR College.

Smt. Amita Patel, Assistant Head Mistress - Shri S.K. Somaiya Vinay Mandir Secondary & Jr. College.

The rally commenced at 10:45 AM with the lighting of a lamp, symbolizing the campaign's dedication to Khadi. All participants took a pledge to support Khadi, reinforcing their commitment to its promotion.

A Press Conference concluded the event, allowing for reflections and insights to be shared.

School Information: S.K. Somaiya School is a part of the legacy left by the founder, Padmabhushan Shri K. J. Somaiya, who established Somaiya Vidyavihar on the 9th of September 1959. The institution was founded with the aim of producing great citizens of India and the world. Shri S.K. Somaiya Vinay Mandir Secondary and Junior College, established in 1965, carries forward this legacy.

The school's motto,"Knowledge alone liberates", reflects its commitment to knowledge as a means of liberation from poverty, hunger, and small-mindedness.
